CMOS Technology was instrumented for sustaining Moore’s law. CMOS devices are scaling microelectronics to nanoelectronics. With the increasing difficulties in minimizing the transistor sizes and increase in power consumption, research began at molecular level. Molecular electronics is visualized as the future of electronics. Apart from being the solution to the miniaturization problem, it also promises the possibility to assemble a large number of nanoscale objects to form new devices. In this review, we discuss the basics of molecular electronics, its components and some of its applications.
