On 9th of February, the opening ceremony for the Laboratory for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (SNN-Lab), of University of Roma "Sapienza" took place.
SNN-Lab is going to be the core facility of the University for cutting-edge research on nanotechnologies and a reference laboratory for the local industry. The laboratory is equipped with top-level instrumentation and professionalism of absolute excellence recognized at international level. SNN-Lab was built entirely with funds from the University and the Region of Lazio (in support ofJoint Labs for innovation and technology transfer). It takes an area of about 400 square meters within the campus building of Orthopaedics. In this structure, under the responsibility of Prof. Maria Sabrina Sarto, base and applied research on nanotechnologies will be carried on: from nanos-tructures and micro / nano devices for electronics and photonics (like new batteries and photovoltaic cells built into windows), nano materials to multifunctional smart surfaces for industrial applications (new automotive tires). The research also extends to the "omics", with the platform of genomics and bioinformatics (for DNA sequencing and whole genome) that has as its referent Alberto Gulino, head of the Center for Genomics and Bioinformatics.
