Dr. Prashant Kumar is a materials scientist with expertise in nanomaterials, specializing in ferrites, ferrofluids, composites, thin films, and two-dimensional materials for advanced biological, environmental, and spintronics applications. He is currently working as a Research Scientist at RIKEN, Japan—one of the world’s leading research institutes renowned for its pioneering contributions to science and technology. Dr. Kumar earned his Ph.D. through a joint program between the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR), India, CSIR-National Physical Laboratory, New Delhi , India and RMIT University, Australia. His doctoral research made significant advances in the synthesis, characterization, and functionalization of magnetic nanomaterials, with impactful applications in biomedical sciences—particularly magnetic fluid hyperthermia for cancer therapy. In recognition of his outstanding research, he was awarded the prestigious Baldev Raj AcSIR Best Thesis Award (2024). Over the years, Dr. Kumar has published extensively in high-impact international journals, authored several book chapters, and established himself as a rising expert in nanoscience. He also contributes to the global scientific community as an Editorial Board Member of Scientific Reports (Springer Nature), the Pharmaceuticals journal (MDPI), and serves on the Early Career Editorial Boards of Prabha Materials Science Letters and the International Journal of Molecular Sciences. In addition, he is a reviewer for several leading international publishers, including Elsevier, Springer, RSC, Wiley, IOP, MDPI, and Taylor & Francis, in the fields of nanomaterials and applied physics. Dr. Kumar has actively participated in more than 30 national and international conferences, workshops, and seminars, where he has presented his research findings. He is also a lifetime member of several prestigious professional societies, including the the National Magnetic Resonance Society of India (NMRS), the Indian Crystallographic Association (ICA), European Magnetism Association (EMA), and the Electron Microscope Society of India (EMSI). His contributions have been recognized with six paper Awards at institutional, national, and international levels. At RIKEN, Dr. Kumar continues to push the frontiers of nanoscience, exploring novel nanostructured magnetic materials to advance both fundamental understanding and real-world applications. His current research includes the design and development of high-temperature superconducting magnets for next-generation NMR systems aimed at transformative biomedical applications.
