Ref: 1446789
Closing date: 5 January 2015

The postholder will work on a collaborative project between NIBEC, University of Ulster at Jordanstown and AVX Ltd, Coleraine.

Candidates must have a strong track record in the characterisation of solid state materials using transmission electron microscopy, including substantial post-doctoral hands-on experience of TEM sample preparation, TEM operation and analysis. A deep knowledge of EDX and SAED is essential, and knowledge of EELS would be desirable. Previous experience of preparation of lamellae for TEM analysis using FIB with in-situ micro-manipulation is desirable. The work will involve sectioning of multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) using FIB and TEM analysis to determine micro-structure and dopant distribution. A knowledge and understanding concerning the role of oxygen vacancies in device failure is desirable.

This post is part of a larger project involving experimental research on the increased reliability and performance of MLCCs and will advance knowledge in relation to the fundamental physico-chemical and electronic properties of MLCC materials and devices.
