Your research and development will focus on novel instrumentation and analytical science, related to the evolving area of industrial nanotechnology. The School has world-leading research activity in this area. The post is part of an EC FP7 funded research project, ‘Process Line Implementation for Applied Surface Nanotechnologies’ (PLIANT). Applications are in three important areas: energy storage with carbon nanotubes, solar cell production and energy efficient (lightweight) airplanes.
You should have, or be working towards, a PhD or equivalent in physics, chemistry, chemical engineering or related discipline. Expertise in the application and development of optical instrumentation is essential. You should be capable of working under your own initiative and be able work effectively alongside project partners in the consortium so excellent communication and organisational skills are also required. There will be the opportunity to complete short periods of research at partner organisations, so you should be willing to travel to Europe on occasion (mainly Germany) for this purpose.
