The University of Southampton is seeking to appoint an outstanding individual to exploit our world-class capabilities in micro and nanotechnology. The appointment will be at Professorial level and will be within ECS – Electronics and Computer Science (www.ecs.soton.ac.uk ), part of the Faculty of Physical Sciences and Engineering.  The Faculty boasts world-leading facilities, particularly the Southampton Nanofabrication Centre (www.southampton-nanofab.com), one of Europe’s leading multidisciplinary cleanroom facilities for research in nanotechnology and bio-nanotechnology; the Tony Davies High Voltage Lab (www.highvoltage.ecs.soton.ac.uk) and the Zepler Institute (a new Institute of which the  Nanofabrication Centre is part). The post-holder will be expected to provide intellectual leadership and to conduct a world-leading research programme in their area of research, capitalising on the research facilities within the faculty.

We are looking for dynamic leaders with an international research profile. He/she will be expected to establish collaborations with others across the University and around the world. 

The appointee will be expected to contribute to the teaching programme in Electronics and Computer Science and perform the normal administrative duties expected of a member of academic staff.  You will be expected to demonstrate experience of academic leadership, evidence of attracting significant research funding as well as personal distinction in scholarship and research.

The successful candidate will have a clear track record of international research excellence in design, fabrication and application of appropriate devices and systems. A strong record of attracting funding to support their research programmes, together with successful engagement in industrial collaborations, is essential. They should also have a demonstrated leadership in their research field, reflected by major publications, invited speaker at international conferences, memberships or awards.
