The University of British Columbia invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship position, with an anticipated start date of October 1st , 2014. The position is located in the Food, Nutrition and Health (FNH) program in the Faculty of Land and Food Systems (Vancouver campus) (www.landfood.ubc.ca). The successful candidate will execute research developing microfluidics “lab-on-a-chip” platform for the determination of chemical and microbiological safety in foods. The candidate will work closely with Dr. Xiaonan Lu (Assistant Professor in Food Science) and graduate students, and will be involved in collaborative work with different research laboratories on UBC Vancouver campus. The appointment will be for 1 year with the possibility of extension for two additional years.

Candidates must have a PhD, preferably in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Food/Agricultural Engineering and preference will be given to those with experience in nanofabrication, polymeric microfluidics and paper fluidics. Candidates with demonstrated contributions relating to the design and fabrication of biosensors are encouraged to apply. Experience in nanotechnology is also highly desirable. Prior experience in project management and/or mentoring of graduate students should be highlighted in the application. A strong track-record of scientific contributions supported by peer-reviewed publications is an asset.
