The Paul Scherrer Institute, PSI, is with 1500 employees the largest research centre for natural and engineering sciences within Switzerland. We perform world-class research in three main subject areas: Matter and Material; Energy and the Environment; and Human Health. By conducting fundamental and applied research, we work on long-term solutions for major challenges facing society, industry and science.
For experimental work related to the chemistry of environmental Interfaces we are looking for a
Postdoctoral Fellow
in Ambient Pressure X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy
Your tasks
Interfaces play an important role in modern chemistry and also in environmental and atmospheric sciences. You will use X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) to investigate the surface chemistry of metal oxides as proxies for atmospheric mineral dust and self-cleaning photocatalytic nanomaterial appliances. You will focus on photochemical processes of nitrogen oxides and organics on these surfaces. Your work will center around our versatile ambient pressure photoemission endstation available for operation at the Swiss Light Source (SLS) at PSI. You will be integrated into an interdisciplinary research team centered around the chemistry and kinetics at solid and liquid – air interfaces.
Your profile
You have a PhD in surface chemistry and significant experience with XPS. You bring strong motivation to work on fundamental questions related to our environment and to contribute to the further development of this fascinating emerging research field.
