Project title: Disruption of bacterial spores using microwaves and nano-particles

An EPSRC supported studentship between the Schools of Pharmacy and Engineering will characterise the effect of microwaves on the structure and viability of bacterial spores. Understanding how microwaves disrupt spore structure is a key element of an on-going effort in the laboratory of Prof Baillie to develop a real time detector for pathogenic spores formers such as Bacillus anthracis and Clostridium difficile (1,2,3).
