Vacancy Information

Perovskite oxides are a family of materials that display an incredible diversity of physical phenomena including high-temperature superconductivity, colossal magnetoresistance, magnetism, ferroelectricity and many others, while sharing the same basic structure that allows them to be stacked epitaxially on top of each other with relative ease.

The aim of this PhD project is to explore several new artificially layered oxide systems that combine ultrathin ferroelectrics with other types of perovskite oxides, exploiting reduced dimensionality, domain formation and interfacial interactions to control the properties and engineer new functionalities in these artificial materials.

Eligibility

This position is only open to UK citizens (or EU citizens settled in the UK) because of funding restrictions.  They should have an undergraduate degree in Physics or a related discipline at a level of 2.1 or above (or the international equivalent).
