Fully funded PhD studentships are available in the field of atomic-resolution imaging of molecular processes on metal surfaces. The successful candidates will be based on the Surface Science Research Centre and the Department of Chemistry at the University of Liverpool, within a dynamic, multidisciplinary research environment. The research projects will use state-of-the-art surface characterisation tools of Scanning Tunnelling Microscopy (STM), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) and Raman Microscopy to probe self-assembled molecular structures at surfaces with novel applications in catalysis and biological processes. Candidates must have a good master degree or first degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or Nanotechnology. Candidates must be curious, creative, highly motivated, and able to work as a member of a team, as well as independently. The PhD students will join a vibrant research community and will b!
e given the opportunity to interact with complementary research groups and attend national and international conferences.

The PhD studentships are available for EU candidates only.

Interested candidates should send a cover letter, CV and two referee names to Jackie Sharp (sc56 @ liverpool.ac.uk) before 20th July 2015.
