PhD position - Nanoscale Wood Surface Properties

In the frame of the FWF project
Nanoscale Wood Surface Properties by Adhesion-Force AFM
we hire a PhD candidate.
We are looking for a motivated team player embedded in a young and dynamic research team with state-of-the art laboratory facilities.


Tasks
Wood surfaces properties will be characterized regarding their physical and chemical properties at the nano-scale level mainly with the help of an Atomic force microscope operated in various modes.
Fundamental aspects of wood composition, wood polymer- and the corresponding property distribution will be investigated and correlated to macroscopic performance.
Manual specimen preparation using cutting techniques but also wet chemistry will be of high importance. Literature research and publication of results in journals and at scientific conferences will also be part of the regular work.


Obligatory qualification
        Master or equivalent degree in physics, material sciences, polymer- or wood science

Requested qualifications
        Distinct interest in chemistry
        English oral and written, German of advantage

Degree of employment:   30 hours per week
Payment according to University regulations (Kollektivvertrag) for doctoral candidates, gross salary 1961.85 / month x 14
Duration:       3 years, starting in December/January
Place:  3430 Tulln, Austria
