At the Institute of Structural Mechanics (chair of Computational Mechanics - Prof. T. Rabczuk), Bauhaus University - Weimar, there is an open position a PhD-student for a period of maximum 5 years; the earliest start date is June 1, 2014. The applicant is supposed to work in an international team on developing a multiscale model for polymeric nanocomposites.

The goal of the research project is the implementation and coupling of numerical models on several different scales, including continuum and molecular dynamics. Another component of this work is error estimation, for both model and discretization errors. The key idea is to develop an adaptive scheme that maximizes the accuracy while minimizing the computational costs.

Description

Requirements for applicants
- M.Sc. in Computational Physics, Computational Chemistry, Applied Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering
- Excellent knowledge in Computational Methods (in particular FEM, XFEM), Mechanics and Applied Mathematics
- Excellent programming skills (C/C++ or Fortran)

The salary is according to the German TV-L East E13 BBesG (around 2000-2500 Euro/month depending on experience and family status).
