At the Institute of Structural Mechanics (chair of Computational Mechanics - Prof. T. Rabczuk), Bauhaus University - Weimar, there is an opening for a PhD position for a period of maximum 5 years. The earliest start date is June 1, 2014. The successful applicant will work in an international team on several aspects of multi-scale and multi-physics modeling of Lithium ion batteries.

The aim of the project is to develop a computational multi-field and multi-scale model for the design of safe and efficient batteries. The model will include stochastic elements to allow for sensitivity analysis and uncertainty quantification. Finally, the goal is to define objective functions and use optimization techniques to choose the design parameters that lead to optimal performance.
