AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, the Austrian research institute with European format which focuses on the key infrastructure issues of the future, is looking to strengthen its team, in the Health and Environment Department, with the immediate appointment of a PhD Student for

Multi-parameter analysis of food spoilage bacteria and biogenic amines in complex matrices

SAMOSS is an international Marie Curie network-project funded by the European Union and starting on October 1st 2013 with partners in Austria, France, Israel, Italy, Spain and The Netherlands. Its overall task will be complex sensor systems developed for multiple parameters sensing on real samples combined with signal enhancement strategies. The network will focus on research and development of new materials for optochemical sensing and microfluidic applications, microfluidic sample handling modules, multifunctional elements, signal enhancement and innovative detection systems.

Within this network we offer the position of a PhD student to work on an individual project in close cooperation with the SAMOSS partner institutions. The researcher will benefit from the networks training program provided through a number of training events as well as by local training offered by AIT.

  • Development of a biomimetic probe for histamine detection
  • Testing and evaluation of the sensor arrays and immunotests
  • Correlation of the biogenic amines with typical bacteria causing the production of biogenic amines

Qualifications:

  • Master degree in natural or technical sciences such as (bio)chemistry, biomedical engineering, microbiology
