In the research group “Intermetallics” in the Department of Structure and Nano-/Micromechanics of Materials at the Max-Planck-Institut für Eisenforschung GmbH (MPIE), Düsseldorf, Germany a

Post-Doc position in “Microstructural characterisation and evaluation of mechanical properties of forged iron aluminide (Fe3Al) alloys”

will be available from June 1st, 2014. The position is limited to one year. MPIE is an internationally acclaimed institute and performs cutting-edge research in the fields of materials and interface science.

The position offers the opportunity to work within a collaborative project on “Forging of Fe-Al compressor blades for steam turbines”. Besides microstructural (light optical and scanning electron microscopy, electron backscatter diffraction) and mechanical (yield strength, 4-point bending, creep) characterisation of forged iron aluminide alloys, the successful applicant will be responsible for evaluating the results and for preparing reports and presentations.

An excellent degree in engineering or natural sciences is required (PhD or equivalent). Candidates with experience in investigating intermetallic alloys will be preferred.

Good communication skills and fluency in English are prerequisites. MPIE is an equal-opportunity employer. MPIE seeks to increase the number of women in areas where they are underrepresented. Women are therefore explicitly encouraged to apply. MPIE strives to increase the number of handicapped employees. Applications of handicapped candidates are therefore highly welcomed.

Applications including an accompanying letter, detailed CV, and publication list should be sent to:
