Junior Research Group Leader “Nanostructure” (Tenure Track)
Applicants preferably hold a PhD in life sciences with a focus on biochemistry, biophysics, chemistry, or molecular biology. They must have several years of experience in basic as well as independent research and an outstanding knowledge in the areas of cell biology, protein analysis, and protein regulation. Applicants are familiar with microscopical methods (i.e. immunofluorescence including TIRF, and flow chamber studies), and nanotechnological methods (i.e. atomic force microscopy, electron microscopy, and nanolithography). Immunological knowledge and/or experience in research in cardiovascular diseases are a must. Work experience abroad as well as flexibility, team spirit, a high level of social competence and the ability to work interdisciplinary are expected. Experience in managing a research group is an advantage.
The Ernst Moritz Arndt University Greifswald has established an interdisciplinary Centre for Innovation Competence (German: Zentrum für Innovationskompetenz, ZIK) to explore humoral immune reactions in cardiovascular diseases (ZIK HIKE). HIKE was initiated as an interfacultary competence centre by the Clinic for Cardiology, the Institute for Immunology and Transfusion Medicine, the Institute for Physics and the Pharmaceutical Institute. The aim of HIKE is to explore the role of immune mechanisms in cardiovascular diseases as well as the mechanisms of immune reactions to biotherapeuticals. In order to do so, antigen structures that derive from native, recombinant and altered proteins are biophysically analysed and their impact on the cells of the immune system is investigated.
The BMBF supports the centre by sponsoring two junior research groups for an initial period of four years and endowing the ZIK with outstanding special equipment. While one group leader position is already filled, HIKE and the BMBF are now looking for a second junior research group leader who is to head a group of four members of staff that is endowed with an above-average budget.
The HIKE research centre is located on the new life sciences campus where the University Hospital and the Institutes of the Faculty for Mathematics and Natural Sciences as well as the Medical Faculty are united. HIKE offers an outstanding research infrastructure, a thriving research environment, an excellent potential for scientific development and allows for a long-term career perspective in research for the research group leader.
Tenure Track: Given a positive evaluation of the research group leader after four years there is the possibility of gaining a permanent W2-professorship.
Female and disabled applicants, qualified according to the above criteria, will be given preference over other candidates with equivalent relevant qualifications.
