General Engineering & Research (GE&R) is a rapidly growing nanotechnology R&D company in San Diego, California that has an immediate opening for a development engineer. The successful applicant will help develop and commercialize new nanoparticle products. GE&R offers all full time employees an excellent benefits package. Salary is commensurate with background and experience (up to $60K per year).

Initial responsibilities for this position will require a significant portion of laboratory work both onsite and at offsite facilities located in San Diego. You will be working on the development and commercialization of a functionalized nanomaterial product. This project is funded by the National Science Foundation under a small business innovative research grant. It is an exciting opportunity to be part of an early stage development project with great market potential. Travel to conferences, customer facilities, etc. to give presentations will be required several times per year. Because we are a small company you may also be required to perform tasks outside of your general job description. REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
Bachelors or Masters in Chemical Engineering, Nanoengineering, or Material Science. Recent graduates and entry level candidates are encouraged to apply.
Desired Experience:

  • Experience with semiconductor manufacturing processes and technologies, specifically Chemical Mechanical Planarization.
  • Experience synthesizing, characterizing, and manipulating nanoparticles.
  • Analytical background including experience with SEM, TEM, DLS, Zeta Potential, and AFM.
  • Pilot or production scale manufacturing.

Required Skills:

  • Great communication and writing skills.
  • Ability to multi-task in a wide variety of technical disciplines.
  • Must be willing to perform tasks outside of general job description.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to perform with little supervision.
  • Must work well in a fast paced, start-up environment.
