CRIS ORFESCU: NanoScientist, NanoArtist, Curator

Source: nanoart21.org« The 2nd International Festival of NanoArt organized by NanoArt21(www.nanoart21.org) will be hosted in Stuttgart, Germany by NAHVISIONInstitute for International Culture Exchange, between November 1st andNovember 30th, 2008. The show is curated by artist/scientist CrisOrfescu (USA) and art professor Dorothea Fleiss (Germany).18 artists from 8 countries were selected to participate with theirworks at this invitational event: Geert Lensens (Belgium), HughMcGrory (Ireland), Teresa Majerus (Luxembourg), Bjoern Daempfling,Dorothea Fleiss (Germany), Han Halewijn (Netherlands), Elena LuciaConstantinescu (Romania), Teja Krasek (Slovenia), Chris Robinson, CrisOrfescu, David Derr, David Hylton, Derek Toomre, Jan Kirstein, JudithLightfeather, Lisa Black, Siddhartha Pathak, Steven Pollard (USA).NanoArt is a new art discipline at the art-science-technologyintersections. It features nanolandscapes (molecular and atomiclandscapes which are natural structures of matter at molecular andatomic scales) and nanosculptures (structures created by scientistsand artists by manipulating matter at molecular and atomic scalesusing chemical and physical processes). These structures arevisualized with powerful research tools like scanning electronmicroscopes and atomic force microscopes and their scientific imagesare captured and further processed by using different artistictechniques to convert them into artworks showcased for largeaudiences.NanoArt is the expression of the New Technological Revolutionreflecting the transition from Science to Art using Technology andcould be for the 21st Century what Photography was for the 20thCentury. Over the past two decades the ability to measure andmanipulate matter at atomic and molecular scales has led to thediscovery of novel materials and phenomena. These advances underliethe multidisciplinary areas known today as Nanotechnology. Theresponsible development and application of Nanotechnology could leadto create jobs and economic growth, to enhance national security, andto improve the quality of life. Some of the benefits would be cleanermanufacturing processes, stronger and lighter building materials, smaller and faster computers, and more powerful ways to detect andtreat disease. NanoArt is aimed to raise the public awareness ofNanotechnology and its impact on our lives. For updated information about the event, please send e-mail toinfo@nanoart21.org or check the event site at http://nanoartfestival-stuttgart.blogspot.com »Interactive Galleries:http://www.crisorfescu.com/The Art of NanoTechhttp://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/01/25/the-art-of-nanotech/?scp=4&sq=nano%20art&st=cseIs NanoArt the New Photography?http://www.nytimes.com/slideshow/2008/01/17/technology/20080117_NANOART_SLIDESHOW_index.html?sq=nano%20art&st=cse&adxnnl=1&scp=4&adxnnlx=1221940923-awf901VdjAHxm/m7U27XGg
