A 3-year postdoctoral research associate position fully funded by the UK EPSRC is now open for application at the NanoChemistry Group, School of Chemistry, University of Leicester. 

 

About the role

In this role you will carry out research on novel nanowires containing both metals and semiconductors and explore their potential as nanowire lasers driven by electrical injection whilst contributing as a team member to the wider research programme.

You will take a leading role in experimental design and determining the direction of the project in line with reaching the research goals, developing your own independent research and providing guidance to the other members of the team in the area of micro-photoluminescence, superfluid helium and nanoscience.

About you

You will be educated to PhD level or equivalent in Physics, Physical Chemistry or Nanoscience with experience in standard techniques of ultravacuum systems and transmission electron microscopy. You will be able to evidence your involvement in innovative research in the field of nanoscience, physical chemistry and/or physics, materials science and have knowledge of research in high-resolution imaging of nanomaterials.

With a proven analytical and problem solving capability, you will be proactive and be motivated by working toward the emergence of new understanding within the field. You'll be a strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills, being able to work comfortably both in a team and independently. You will be able to work with minimal supervision, prioritising your own workload to deal with urgent tasks, while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and attention to detail.
