Tools of Nanoscience

fn1_2a_tools_cr.pptThe second unit for this course I call the tools of nanoscience. The tools actually covered are the common tools used for materials characterization. The tools actually used here are summarized in the powerpoint. They include microscopy, spectroscopy, diffraction and an "other" category. I have tried grouping these in different ways, for example putting all of the X-rays analysis methods together. One interesting chart I saw organized the analysis methods based on inputs and outputs. For example in XPS you have an X-ray as an input and a characteristic electron as an output.A really nice diagram illustrating the analysis capabilities of the different analysis techniques is available from Evans Analytical.http://www.eaglabs.com/files/literature/BR004.pdfMost of the emphasis will be on SEM, AFM, EDS, UV-Vis and XRD.
