A theoretical PhD position for the duration of 3 years is available in the group of Burkhard Schmidt at the Institute of Mathematics in the Free University Berlin (Germany).
The project aims at controlling the rotational degrees of freedom of small molecules through electromagnetic fields. The quantum description of the rotation subject to combined field can be based on the concept of supersymmetry, see also our web-site http://sites.google.com/site/quantclassmoldyn. Upon advancing from single molecules to arrangements of interacting molecules, also the characterization and control of entanglement shall be addressed, with potential implications on quantum computing.
We seek a highly motivated Ph.D. student with a keen interest in modern concepts in quantum mechanics and their application in molecular physics. The applicant should hold a Master degree (or equivalent) in mathematics, physics or theoretical chemistry, as well as experience in computational approaches, i.e., in developing and implementing numerical algorithms.
The successful candidate is expected to present his results in high-quality journals and at international conferences, and to bring in his expertise into international and/or interdisciplinary cooperations. Good communication skills in English, both written and oral, are compulsory; knowledge of German is not necessary.
Interested applicants should send a detailed CV to:
