Abstract

Optical limiting is an important application of nonlinear optics, useful for the protection of human eyes, optical elements and optical sensors from intense laser pulses. For this project, we have synthesized graphene and porphyrin by our modified methods. Graphene, a very recent rising star in material science, with an atomically thin, 2D structure that consists of sp2-hybridized carbons, exhibits remarakable electronic, optical and mechanical properties. The non-linear optical properties of porphyrin based materials are of special interest, in part for energy transfer with molecular control, and in part for potential applications in optical communications, data storage, optical limiting. The main goal of this work is to generate multifunctional nanomaterial by combining graphene nanosheets with optoeletronically active porphyrin nanorods.
