The mission of the Cambridge Graphene Centre (CGC) is to investigate the science and technology of graphene, carbon allotropes, layered crystals and hybrid nanomaterials. The Cambridge Graphene Centre also hosts the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT), in Graphene Technology. The CDT works closely with industry to ensure that successful students are properly equipped to follow careers in both industry and academia.
The role-holder will manage, provide technical leadership and be responsible for all technical facilities of the CGC. This will require creating a charging structure for users, with the aim of reaching self-sustainability; procurement of equipment; line management of the centre's technicians. The role-holder will also provide teaching and learning support for PhD students on the use of the various research facilities as well as supervise MRes projects and provide technical expertise to all research projects of the CGC and CDT. The role holder will also be the Local CGC Safety Officer.
The successful applicant will have a PhD in Engineering, Nanotechnology, Materials Science, Chemistry or Physical Sciences with relevant post doctoral experience (in Industry or University) or an approved period of practical training or an equivalent professional qualification. Extensive experience in running and operation of clean rooms together with proven management experience in these areas. Knowledge of nano-fabrication processes (i.e. lithography, etching, deposition, metallisation, oxidation) and the equipment used for these processes. Knowledge of processing and spectroscopy equipment (including lasers, printing and liquid processing systems, etc.). Knowledge of deposition processes, in particular chemical and physical vapour deposition, and installation, use and handling of several processing gases, including hazardous ones.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance.
