Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering (CAPEC-PROCESS) seeks a project manager with strong scientific background to coordinate multi-disciplinary and international projects and to assist CAPEC-PROCESS in attracting external research funding, creating relationships, and developing and implementing strategies that increase the institutional competitiveness. The target start date for the employment is 15 February 2015.
The main project of the candidate will be the coordination of the European network for innovative microbioreactor application in bioprocess development (EUROMBR). The EUROMBR project is an EU-funded four-year Marie Curie Initial Training Network (ITN) Project commencing on 1 November 2013 (Grant Agreement No. 608104). The total value of the project is €4 million and involves 12 project partners from Universities and Industry from different EU countries. CAPEC-PROCESS leads the project, which objective is to deliver a trans-European network of industrially oriented specialist fully trained in the development and application of microbioreactor (MBR) technology to support development of innovative bio-based manufacturing processes.
Job Description
The purpose of the job is to provide full support of the Project coordinator in the management, administration and day-to-day routines of the EUROMBR project, and all aspects of the program. The candidate will provide a key supporting role in the overall co-ordination and implementation of the EUROMBR project, ensuring that the objectives of the project are achieved in line with the specific provisions of the Grant Agreement and its annexes, the Consortium Agreement and the Partnership Agreement.
Furthermore, the candidate will assist the CAPEC-PROCESS to find funding opportunities, strengthen research programs and proposals.
Task and responsibilities:
- Project Management (maintain project plan, coordinating meetings, reporting, liaise with project partners and with external parties (e.g. EU commission))
- PR communications, e.g annual reports, web page development/coordination
- Grant opportunities, dissemination and proposal development
- Grant Writing, Coordinating/Finding Collaborating institutions for a proposal, analyzing and editing proposal drafts
- Liaison with funding agencies
- Coordinate multi-disciplinary interest groups
Qualifications
The ideal candidate for this position would bring experience of working in a multi-disciplinary and multi-national project. Ideally, the candidate is already familiar with managing a Marie Curie ITN projects. An interdisciplinary scientific background within chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology, biology, physics, nanotechnology or a related field or equivalent work experience would be considered as a strong asset. The candidate should also be experienced in grant writing and proposal process.
Required qualifications include:
- Scientific competence
- Project management experience, preferable of EU-based projects and/or Marie Curie ITN projects
- Experience of establishement of project documentation, including SOPs etc.
- Experience of collaborative software environments (e.g. Microsoft Sharepoint)
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office application including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Project Manager
- Excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills to effect and maintain good partnerschip collaboration
- Ability to prioritise own workload and work to specified deadlines under pressure
- Ability and flexibility to react effectively to changes in the project plan or to partner/EC requirements
- Calm and efficient approach to meet project and partner demands and deadlines
- Ability to work on own and as part of a team
- Enthusiasm and commitment
- Ability to travel to attend international meetings and to use office equipment, handle documentation as required

- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, and preferable German, as we have a lot German speaking partners
