The Postdoctoral Associate duties will include, but will not be limited to: carrying out research activities related to NIH projects in Professor Castracane’s group, guiding the training of junior members of the group and assisting with the technical direction of the projects. Specifically, the position will focus on two complementary areas: 1). Developing methods for producing nanofiber-based artificial scaffolds for use in salivary gland cell growth and differentiation and 2). Studying cancer cell migration dynamics using in vitro and in vivo techniques. This effort will center on the NANIVID, an implantable microdevice, designed to attract and capture migrating cells for genetic typing. For these projects, the Postdoc’s duties will include executing independent research tasks, assisting/mentoring graduate and undergraduate students assigned to the project and producing relevant progress reports and scholarly publications. Individual tasks focus on developing methods for efficient electrospinning, immunocytochemistry, confocal microscope imaging, MEMS fabrication and acting as direct interface with collaborators on the projects. Additionally, the Postdoc must be willing and able to complete other duties in support of the projects as reasonably assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
A doctorate in nanoscience/engineering (with nanobiology concentration), bioengineering, materials science or related field from a college or university accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization. Candidates must have strong interpersonal and communication skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office suite; ability to work on multiple projects and manage time efficiently; ability to be assertive, exercise excellent judgment and decision making skills, and must be extremely organized and detail oriented; must have exceptional ability to communicate with scientists, students and other professionals.
