CUI is a Cluster of Excellence funded by the German Federal and States Governments. Based on its unique scientific environment CUI combines projects in physics, chemistry, and biology at the forefront of international research. With interdisciplinary teams from Universität Hamburg, DESY, the Max Planck Institute for the Structure and Dynamics of Matter, European XFEL, and the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) CUI aims at imaging and understanding ultrafast processes in photon and nanoscience.

We invite applications for PhD positions in the core areas of CUI:
A: Imaging and Control of Quantum Systems
B: Atomically Resolved Structural Dynamics
C: Dynamics of Order Formation on the Nanoscale

All PhD students are part of the graduate school which offers a rich and comprehensive course programme. PhD applicants should hold a Master of Science in physics, chemistry, or biology depending on the project.

The university intends to increase the number of women amongst its academic personnel and expressly encourages qualified women to apply. In compliance with the Hamburg Equal Opportunity Law, preference will be given to qualified female applicants.

Preference will be given to disabled applicants with equal qualifications.
