X-Ray nanotomograph SkyScan 2011

The SkyScan 2011 is a compact, low-cost, portable X-Ray scanner for nondestructive three dimensional microscpy. X-Ray tomography system alows to visualize and measure complete three-dimensional object structures and without sample preparation or chemical fixation. In the simplest case, we can describe the X-ray illumination as parallel. In this approximation, each point on the shadow image contains the integration of absorption information inside the three-dimensional object along the path of the corresponding partial X-ray beam. For parallel geometry one can divide the problem of three-dimensional reconstruction from two-dimensional projections into the serial reconstruction of two-dimensional object slices from one-dimensional shadow lines. SkyScan 2011 can be connected to any Pentium-based PC by serial port or USB & FireWire. The 2011 is supplied with software for system control, X-ray radiography and 3D reconstruction. The main areas of application are metal foams, plastics, composites, diamonds defectoscopy, biomedical objects and other non-destructive testing. Specifications Object size – 0.5-1 mm for max. resolution, 11 mm max.diameter (9 µm pixels), X-ray source – open (pumped) type 20-80 kV, LaB6 filament, Au or W target, X-ray detector - intensified 1280x1024 pixels, 12 bit CCD with FireWire, Spatial resolution - <150 nm pixel size (isotropic), 400nm low-contrast (10%MTF), Scanning time – 15-90 min for entire object volume (1280 x 1024 pixels projections), Radiation safety - < 1 μSv/h in any place of instrument surface. In SkyScan systems, using a Windows environment, the results of scanning can be saved in BMP (8 bit) or TIFF (16 bit) formats.
