Lecture for students, faculty and other interested community members at Peking University's Department of Occupational & Environmental Health Sciences. Topics will include results of silver and gold nanoparticle inhalation studies performed at KEMTI and our successes working with the international nanotoxicology community to produce International Standards Organization (ISO) procedures for performing nanoparticle inhalation studies. The lecture will be approximately one hour in length and will be followed by a question and answer discussion session. There is no charge to attend this presentation and it will be in English. Please RSVP with me if you intend to attend this lecture. 恭喜發财!Vince Rubino+82-32-858-0011Skype ID: convinceablehttp://www.linkedin.com/in/convincedAbout the presentation:Korea Environment and Merchandise Testing Institute (KEMTI) is performing nanoparticle inhalation research studies and have lead the effort of writing ISO standards for performing these tests. Recent studies involving in vivo gold and silver metallic nanoparticle inhalation will be discussed, as well as development of the nanoparticle evaporation/condensation generation and nanoparticle characterization standards by the international scientific community.About the presenter:Vince has a Bioengineering B.S. from UC Berkeley and has held positions in validation, engineering and quality assurance in the biopharmaceutical industry. He is currently Quality Systems Manager for KEMTI a Contract Research Organization (CRO) where toxicity tests following Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) are performed. Vince is a Korean delegate to the ISO TC-229 Nanotechnologies group.About the location and host:The mission of the Peking University Department of Occupational & Environmental Health Sciences is to perform high quality research focused on health effects caused by chemical, physical, and biological factors in the occupational and living environment. The department offers master, doctoral and postdoctoral programs, as well as continued education for public health professionals. In 2000, the Department of Occupational Health, Department of Environmental Health and Department of Sanitary Chemistry, founded in 1954, 1950, and 1981 respectively, merged into a new department and was renamed the Department of Occupational & Environmental Health Sciences. The department provides broad services to the public, such as measurement of samples from environmental or biological materials, evaluation of health effects caused by occupational or environmental factors and safety evaluation for reproductive and developmental toxicity. The current director is Prof. Xinbiao Guo.The host for this presentation is Dr. Guang Jia, Professor of Occupational Health, whose major research field is mechanism of occupational hazards and effective preventive methods.Department research areas include:Occupational Health: Dust and pneumoconiosis, physical factors and ergonomics, occupational health for women, industrial toxicology, biological monitoring, bio markers, etc.Environmental Health: Indoor and outdoor air pollution and health risk assessment, trace elements and health, metal pollution and health, toxicological mechanisms of metal pollutants, etc.Sanitary Health: Biological standard materials, assay of materials of environmental and biological origins. The Occupational Health Department is located on the 6th floor of the Public Health Building of Peking University Health Science Center, Beijing. +86-10-8280-1523
