The Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology Research Center (CINN), joint research center created in 2007 by institutional joint initiative between the Spanish Council for Scientific Research (CSIC), the Government of Asturias and the University of Oviedo, is organizing the 5th International Conference on Mullite and Mullite-based Materials. This workshop will take place in Avilés (Spain) from 8th to 11th May 2011 and will bring together scientists from 10 countries.
The aims of the Mullite 2011 Workshop can be summarized as follows:
- Giving an overview on the recent knowledge of crystal chemistry of mullite and mullite-type materials
- Making use of this knowledge to better understand and further improve properties of mullite and mullite-type materials.
- Transfer of the recent knowledge on mullite and mullite-type materials to actual and potential future technical applications.
- Definition of new projects and cooperations. Projects and cooperations should have the aim to widen the fundamental knowledge, and especially the understanding related to actual and future technical applications of mullite and mullite-type materials in fields such as aerospace, energy and biomedicine.
This International Workshop will count on the presence, among others, of the following distinguished experts:
- Prof. Hartmut Schneider (Universities of Köln and Bremen, Germany)
- Prof. Kiyoshi Okada (Institute of Technology, Japan)
- Prof. Waltraud M. Kriven (University of Illinois, USA)
- Prof. Ramón Torrecillas (CINN-CSIC, Spain)
- José Serafín Moya (ICMM-CSIC, Spain).
