Gold nanoparticles were fabricated via laser ablation of solid gold in liquid Methyl methacrylate (MMA). The red colour shifts towards bue, caused by agglomeration (coupling of plasmon resonance). In contrary to gold in water, where O- and OH- stabilizes the positively charged Au, MMA does not stabilize the colloid. Hence, this monomer has to be polymerized fast if the nanoparticles shall be conserved in dispersed form.
