Development of a new synthetic route for rapid synthesis of conducting polymer nanocomposites for the use of proto type domestic gas sensors Identify and optimization of new synthetic method for the rapid production of nanometal oxide resulting in significant cost reduction, and thus making it an industrially viable process Created a simple cost efficient method to synthesize nanofibers, nanorods and nanocombs for Humidity and LPG sensing. Fabrication of proto type sensor set up for laboratory and domestic uses.

Chemical synthesis of size and shape controlled metal oxide nanomaterials (titania, titanates, Zinc oxide, cadmium oxide and ferrites) using colloidal approaches (sol-gel, microemulsions), for sensor and antimicrobial studies. Synthesis of porous metal oxide materials using organic template methods Hydrothermal and solvo-thermal synthesis of titania, zinc oxide and ferrites and utilizing electric oven and microwave reactor Synthesis of magnetic and non magnetic materials by employing coprecipitation, combustion, SPCR and microwave acetate route. Preparation of nanostructure thin films of non-conducting blends by hot pressing method. Synthesis of nanoferrites / metal oxides by employing solid state method. Synthesis of novel nanomaterials by biological routes (bacteria, fungi, actinomyceta and plant extract). Studies on microbial activity of nano titanium oxides. Synthesis of polymer ceramic nanocomposites by in situ/interfacial method, Determination of crystal structure and morphology of the materials using XRD, Raman Spectra and Scanning Electron Microscopy, Atomic Force Microscopy, Transmission Electron Microscopy etc Thermal stability of nanocomposites/oxides/ferrites using thermal analyzer (TGA-DSC instrument). Transport studies by using two/four probes dc and ac conductivity. Analysis and interpretation of pore size, pore volume, surface area using BET Surface area analyzer Interpretation of surface elemental composition and amount of dopants using XPS spectra Identification of optical absorption and surface functional groups using UV-Vis absorption and FT-IR Fabrication of prototype sensor set up for demonstration in laboratory.
