My research field or area of interest innanotechnology
Research summary I have gathered my research experience in the field of supramolecular DNA assembly where I had applied the basic principle of chemistry and biology to device nanoscale materials. I had used the synergistic properties of nucleic acids and synthetic molecules to address challenges of precise molecular patterning, chemical construction for DNA based therapeutic use and protection of DNA themselves. I have created novel two and three dimensional superstructures in the nanoscale by covalent conjugation of DNA with organic molecules like melamine, porphyrin and triptycenetripropiolic acid and their subsequent self-assembly. I have established the construction of linear and network type supramolecular DNA structures from melamine-DNA conjugates. Melamine is an organic molecule and their dendrimer and other conjugates are recently used as drug delivery vehicle and transfection. I have designed the DNA- quantum dot array where melamine –DNA conjugates used as linker. This newly constructed array can be used in electronics, optics and sensing applications. I have also constructed nanofibers from the zinc protoporphyrin IX templated assemblies of triptycene-DNA building blocks. This biocompatible novel nanostructure has superior and coherent reactive oxygen species generation properties that could be explored as an effective tool in photodynamic therapy (PDT) as well as photo catalytic reactions and others. On the other hand, I have also designed an antimicrobial film from self assembly of covalent conjugates DNA porphyrin, this film has high efficancy over free porphyrin film. Additionally, I have also studied the supramolecular interaction of DNA with heterocyclic, planar rigid, newly synthesised organic and inorganic molecules, carbon nanomaterials and polymeric materials. The recognition and supramolecular interactions of DNA with the functional elements of synthetic organic and inorganic molecules play a vital role in drug designing, delivery, mechanism of action and other biomedical applications. I have created a polyplex by the interaction of tyrosine amino acid polymer with genomic DNA. I also have highlighted the effect of carbon nanomaterials on extracellular DNA repairing process.
