My research field or area of interest innanotechnology

I am a retired Senoir Research Scientist if the Rubber Research Institute of Malaysia. Being a material scientist , using the natural rubber and its composites as the base materials that ae developed into end-products for indutrial and automotive application. Of the use of the electronic device like the FTIR, SEM, X-ray diffraction, DSC were/are some of the instruments used.

In the world of the nanotechnolgy, and as most scientists would feel, how to make the ordinary people, such as the school students of 10-15 . or even 17 years old understand what is nano science. In Our Malaysian Scientific Association, we has a outreach program " The Public Understanding of Science and Technology (PUSAT) , where 500-600 students are gathered and listerned to a series of talks on the Modern sciences. Nanotechnology is one of them. I myself is trying a Nanosience program for school, based on the Stoichemistry of a simple reaction. The students are then ask to participate in the calculation of the approx. atomic distance between the 2 ions.-, or a sum of the two ionic radius. Then check withe the published data... see how close it is, by the theoretical calculation. It is still not in the pipe-line, and a lot of preprations are involved.The students are demonstrated to see what the nm is , and compare to the common lengths meter, cm,, and Angstrom units. We could not be able to use the X-ray or the SEM machine for the student demo. at the school level. I hope that your center would assist us in one way or another to make our outreach program a more hand-on program.
