SWCNT increases reproduction time of an autolytic Staphylococcus aureus strain

Abstract:
The growth kinetics of autolytic Staphylococcus aureus bacterium is characterized by two phases: a rising phase is followed by a descending one after about 5 hours, and over time it reaches its initial value. According to our previous experiments, SWCNT does not affect the growth kinetics of the non-autolytic bacteria so far investigated. However, in the case of our autolytic Staphylococcus aureus strain SWCNT resulted in a change in the bacterial growth curve: it became elongated resulting in a longer reproduction time. This observation is also confirmed by the CCK-8 viability assay.
