A 2-year postdoc research associate position is now open for application at the NanoChemistry Group, School of Chemistry, University of Leicester.

About the role

In this role, you will develop and carry out your own research on “Unveiling quantized vortices in nanoscale quantum fluids” whilst contributing as a team member to the wider research programme. This research combines low-temperature physics with nanoscience, i.e., by use of a particle deposition method to uncover the behavior of nano-sized quantum fluid under rotation, where the key signature is the quantized vortices. Important phenomena, such as shape evolution of rotating superfluid and quantum turbulence, which vary with the angular momentum of the superfluid, will be explored.

You will take a leading role in experimental design and determining the direction of the project in line with reaching the research goals, developing your own independent research and providing guidance to the other members of the team in the area of quantum hydrodynamics, superfluid helium and nanoscience.

About you

With a relevant PhD or equivalent professional qualification and experience, you will have experience in standard techniques of ultravacuum systems and transmission electron microscopy. You will be able to evidence research productivity and an involvement in innovative research in the field of nanoscience, physical chemistry and / or physics. Knowledge and experience about superfluid helium droplets is highly desirable; and knowledge and experience of research in high-resolution imaging of nanomaterials is essential.

We are looking for a self-starter with the ability to plan, implement and deliver programmes of work. You will be motivated by the subject matter and use this to deliver the highest quality research.
