  • Dear Colleague,

Encouraged by the outcome of the eight previous editions, INEB is hosting the 9th Advanced Summer Course in Cell-Materials Interactions.

The event will be held from the 16th to 20th of June, 2008, and it will focus on Bioinspired Matrices for Tissue Regeneration.

Lectures will provide a perceptive overview, as well as an in-depth knowledge on this field. The following top-notch scientists renowned for their excellence in science and communication skills have accepted our invitation to participate in the course:

Samuel I. Stupp (Northwestern University, USA)
Luigi Ambrosio (University of Naples, Italy)
Stephen L. Minger (King's College, London, UK)
João Relvas (Institute of Cell Biology, Zürich, Switzerland)
Peter Zandstra (University of Toronto, Canada)
Marc Mareel (Ghent University Hospital, Belgium)

As in the previous editions, laboratory sessions in relevant techniques will be available for a limited number of participants.

The topics of the laboratorial sessions will be the following:

Topic A - Preparation and characterization of self-assembled matrices
Topic B - In vitro evaluation of angiogenesis within a protein-based hydrogel

We encourage all participants to prepare a poster with their most recent data or future work plans, to be presented at the course poster session.
In this way we expect to stimulate lively discussions and exchange of ideas between the participants and speakers. An award will be given to the best poster presentation.

On behalf of the Organizing Committee, we would like to invite you to participate in the course, which will also enable you to visit Porto, a World Heritage city overlooking the River Douro.

We suggest you visit the course website at http://www.9cmi.ineb.up.pt for further details.

We look forward to seeing you in Porto!

  • ICTF14 : 14th International Conference on Thin Films & Reactive Sputter Deposition 2008 : First Call

    First Call :
    ICTF14 & RSD2008 : 14th International Conference on Thin Films & Reactive Sputter Deposition 2008
    (http://www.ictf14.ugent.be )

The International Conference on Thin Films is by far the most complete event for bringing together the scientific and technological community active in the field of coatings and thin films.
It is one of the tri-annual conference series endorsed and co-organised by the Thin Film Division of the International Union for Vacuum Science, Technique and Applications "IUVSTA". This union represent nearly 15000 physicists, chemists, material scientists, engineers and technologists from all over the world, all linked together through their common use of vacuum.
The very origin of the IUVSTA goes back to 1958 in Namur, Belgium, and the 14th edition of the Thin Film Conference (ICTF14) brings IUVSTA back to Belgium in celebration of its 50th anniversary.

ICTF14 will take place from 17th to 20th November 2008, and has its venue in Ghent.
It will be combined with the Reactive Sputter Deposition symposium "RSD 2008", a steadily growing conference essentially focused on reactive sputtering and its fundamental aspects.
Both conferences are devoted to the production and use of coatings, from basic research to devices and new applications.

Newcomers as well as experienced researchers will have the possibility to broaden their scope in the ever growing field of coatings and thin films.
Without loosing the focus on thin films as such, this 14th edition will also cover new aspects as the interaction biology-coatings and nanoscience-coatings.
A more elaborate list of topics can be found on this conference website, along with information on the conference venue which is located in the historical heart of the medieval city of Ghent.
The social events, organised during the conference, will allow you to appreciate the historical character of Ghent, a remarkable city combining an imposing past with a lively and vibrant present.

I will be very pleased to welcome you in Ghent in November 2008!

    Best regards,

Prof. Dr. ir. R. De Gryse
