Start date: at the earliest possible date or upon agreement.

Erich Schmid institute (ESI), Austrian Academy of Sciences, is seeking a postdoctoral fellow and one Ph.D to join the group of advanced electron microscopy to carry out investigations on the nanostructured materials, such as Cr-Cu, Cu-Ag, Ni-Ag and Cu-Fe etc. The project is mainly focusing on the atomic and electronic structure characterization of nanostructured materials by carrying out advanced electron microscopy and spectroscopy analysis in order to understand the chemical intermixing and segregation phenomena emerged during the severe plastic deformation. Understanding the atomic and electronic structures of these phenomena is very crucial to elucidate the high strength limit, electronic and magnetic properties of these nanostructured materials. To achieve this objective, the HRTEM/STEM and EELS/EDXS, electron diffraction techniques will be invoked.

Postdoc position:

The candidate should have a PhD degree in materials science or physics. The successful candidate should have a strong background in electron microscopic and spectroscopic techniques (HRTEM, STEM, EDXS, EELS, and electron diffraction etc.) and should have applied them previously towards studying materials. He/she should have demonstrated a good track-record of disseminating experimental results to the scientific community.

Ph.D position:

The candidate should have a master degree in materials science or physics, and first experience with transmission electron microscopy would be of advantage but is not mandatory. Furthermore, she/he should be self-motivated, and speak fluent English and enjoy scientific teamwork.
