Smart photocontrollable supramolecular systems

Our interdisciplinary Emmy Noether-group offers a PhD position for a highly skilled and motivated student eager to work in the interdisciplinary field of supramolecular chemistry and photochemistry. Our vision is to create smart supramolecular systems and complex molecular nano-machines that can precisely be controlled by simple light signaling. With these synthetic tools we aim to address a variety of challenging problems in the field of material sciences and biology with special emphasis of predictable, inducible, and reversible system changes. The prospective student will be involved in all aspects of modern synthetic organic chemistry (synthesis, purification, analysis), quantitative physical organic and supramolecular chemistry (theoretical modeling using quantum chemical descriptions, evaluation of binding modes, geometries, binding constants, kinetic analyses) as well as photochemistry (mechanistic studies, photophysical property design). Near future prospects include!
  practica
l applications in the fields of material science and biology.
We offer an unique scientific environment with a strong network of excellence clusters (e.g. CIPSM) and collaborative research centers (SFBs) in which the student will be exposed to multiple collaboration opportunities with physicists and theoretical as well as biological chemists for the duration of the project.
The applying student should have a strong theoretical and practical background in synthetic organic and physical chemistry and preferably also supramolecular chemistry and/or photochemistry. Applications should include a CV and at least one recommendation letter.
