SUMMARY: The Sales Application Scientist AFM presents technical material and provides critical commercial support for Bruker NanoSurfaces products and services. S/he develops strong scientific and collaborative relationships with customers in the field. S/he assists the sales team in advancing commercial opportunities through the presentation & demonstration of technologies as part of a complete workflow.  Additionally, s/he assists in monitoring market trends to help guide the development of new products and applications, evaluates experimental needs to match with expertise in metrology technologies.  Candidate will be based in San Francisco Bay Area (San Jose Area), CA. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Perform product demonstrations at our application laboratory or at customer sites for multi-disciplinary applications.
  • Work closely with the Regional Sales teams to drive instrumentation sales that meet or exceed corporate forecasts.
  • Develop a strong understanding of competitive technologies and products.
  • Prepares and delivers technical presentations to scientific audiences at workshops, tradeshows and conferences.
  • Helps to maintain and increase product usage.
  • Provides front-line troubleshooting of issues related to user’s technical skills.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with customers in assigned territory.
  • Works with Product Managers on customer initiatives aimed at defining customer’s needs for new and improved products and services.
  • Works with development teams to identify and help characterize new applications in our related product mix to allow the capture of new markets.
  • Helps to specify and develop technical support materials and user manuals for new and current products.
  • Works with the Marketing team to contribute to journal articles, application notes and other marketing and technical collateral to support products at seminars, scientific meetings and trade shows as required.
  • Works with other team members to develop sales and field application technical training programs and participates in their execution.
  • Acts as a key contributor of the customer feedback to marketing, customer support and product development teams.
  • Develops and improves key company processes that support our mission of building a world-class Sales and Customer Support Organization.
  • Provides equipment setup, teardown, demonstration and technical support during workshops, tradeshows and conferences.
  • Other duties as required.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: No supervisory responsibilities.

 

Desired Skills and Experience

 

  • BS in biophysics, biochemistry, biology or equivalent with a minimum of 5 years scanning probe microscopy or nano-meter scale characterization experience minimum required.  Advanced degrees may be considered with fewer years of experience.
  • Bio/LifeScience AFM background is essential (will be considered a significant advantage).
  • Electrical or mechanical characterization using AFM is considered an advantage
  • Several years of post-University, multi-disciplinary experience is an advantage.
  • Outstanding problem solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be self-directed and self-motivated to work at a highly technical level.
  • Ready to travel frequently (up to 60%)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Multiple languages are a plus.
  • Optical profiler background will be considered a significant advantage.
