The Department of Materials seeks a Research Support Assistant to join our team supporting and providing training for users of our Electron Microscopy Facility.

The post holder will deliver basic user training within the EM facility, with the emphasis on introducing new users to electron microscopes and related instruments, as well as providing service work on behalf of researchers under the guidance of senior research support scientists and leading the supervision of our sample preparation laboratory. We will also expect you to adapt and improve on our systems, as well as liaising with the technical support team in maintaining performance levels of the microscopes.

You will have an HND/C, first degree or equivalent training in Physics, Materials, Engineering, Biology or similar and be able to demonstrate an aptitude or experience in working with and understanding the operation of electron microscopes, as well as excellent communication and time management skills. Ideally you should also demonstrate experience of training or teaching in a work setting or other environment.
