We invite applications from outstanding scientists to fill two postdoctoral Research Fellow positions at the University of Huddersfield. You will use the Microscope and Ion Accelerator for Materials Investigations (MIAMI) Facility to explore radiation damage in nuclear materials on a project funded by the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). MIAMI is a unique UK facility providing excellent opportunities for high-impact research and collaboration with other leading research groups worldwide.

Responsibilities will include the design and execution of complex irradiation experiments, analysis of results and preparation of publications. You will also be encouraged and supported to attend international conferences to disseminate your research to the scientific community.

You must have a PhD in a relevant field and a publication record commensurate with your stage of career.

You must have good knowledge of at least two of the following:

  • transmission electron microscopy
  • radiation damage in materials
  • structural nuclear materials
  • nuclear waste storage materials.

In addition, you must have extensive experience of sample preparation for materials characterisation and at least one of the following:

  • transmission electron microscopy
  • operation and maintenance of ion beam systems.
