Research Associate in Graphene-Based Saturable Absorbers

One position exists for a research associate to work on graphene-based saturable absorbers. The project is funded by the EU, and will be based at the Cambridge Graphene Centre (www.graphene.cam.ac.uk ). The aim is to build saturable absorption devices for passive modelocking of laser systems at various wavelengths, as well as their integration into standard optics and gain materials. This includes design, simulation and characterization of structures, where graphene is transferred on, or integrated into dielectric layers, DBRs, output couplers or top coatings of gain materials. The characterisation of the integrated graphene devices will be carried out by nonlinear optical absorption, Raman and pump-probe spectroscopy.

The skills, qualifications and experience required to perform the role are: a PhD in Physics, Photonics, Material Science or Electrical Engineering; proven expertise in graphene-based ultrafast lasers design, assembly and testing; the ability to continually update knowledge in the specialist area and engage in continuous professional development; experience of managing own workload; experience of characterisation of integrated graphene devices using nonlinear optical absorption, Raman and pump-probe spectroscopy.

The post holder will be located in West Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.

Salary Ranges: Research Associate: £28,132 - £36,661

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 6 months in the first instance.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment.
