Professors of Cell Biology

We are looking for two professors of Cell Biology, preferably in the areas of nanomedicine and stem cell biology,  to form the new integrated Radboud Cell Biology department of the Radboud university medical center and the Faculty of Science of the Radboud University. One position is for a Head of the Department. The challenge for the newly appointed professors will be to capitalize on existing ambition in research and education to create groups with a drive for innovation of fundamental and applied cell biology. Coherence and synergy both within and outside of the department as well as securing extramural funding will be key factors to success.Three seamlessly integrated research lines from molecule to mouse could be envisaged: i) nanomedicine; ii) fundamental stem cell biology; iii) cell dynamics (Prof. P. Friedl) forming the new Radboud Cell Biology department. In order to achieve the goals, the to-be recruited professors must be well established in the field, pro-active and fully committed to the challenges ahead. Radboud University and Medical Center exhibit a state-of-the art infrastructure and pose exciting opportunities for molecule-2-man-population research; together with the right leadership, Radboud has the potential to be a key institution for cell biology research. The professors will: stimulate, structure and intensify scientific research, and thereby contribute to an increase in high-quality publications. play a distinctive role in the education of students, contribute to the department’s educational and training programmes, and participate in student education, as well as in postgraduate and extramural education. initiate and intensify excellent relations with partners within and outside the Radboud University and the Radboud university nijmegen medical center. build on the synergy of the interfaculty power. The professor / Head of Department will be responsible for the department’s policy with regard to the core tasks of research and education, as well as for the organisation and management of this result-oriented department. He/she will manage the department in a transparent and inspiring manner.

Description

The professor in stem cell biology is an outstanding investigator addressing fundamental and applied questions in cell biology with an emphasis on stem cell biology, e.g. understanding the role of stem cells in tumour propagation, control of cellular plasticity, migration and invasion and on the significance of the interactions of stem cells with their microenvironment. The successful candidates have the following qualifications: Strong interest in quantitative imaging, single-cell dynamics, inter- and intra-cellular interactions, cytoskeletal dynamics, transcriptional (de)regulation, signal transduction mechanisms, stem cell reprogramming/differentiation, ‘omics’ technologies. The ability to create a climate that embraces excellence and focus in research and educational duties, with a strong commitment and passion for teaching and mentoring. A unifying leader who seeks out new opportunities for innovation and collaboration at the local, national and international levels. A high quality publication history, excellent track record in acquiring extramural funding, and international esteem. The ability to recognize (young) talent and to attract, coach and motivate talent. An inspiring teacher with a passion and vision for education.
