The University of Jyväskylä is a nationally and internationally significant research university and an expert on education that focuses on human and natural sciences. The University is Finland’s   leading expert in teacher education and adult education, as well as the major   exporter of education. The Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences is the only   one in the country. The University of Jyväskylä is known for its dynamic   operating culture and strong commitment to social responsibility.

The Department of Physics in the Faculty of Mathematics and Science is currently seeking to recruit staff to the position of

2-3 Post-doctoral researcher in Computational Nanoscience, beginning January 1st 2016 or as agreed, contract length 2 years.

Post-doctoral research positions (2-3) are available in the group of Academy Professor Hannu Häkkinen (http://users.jyu.fi/~hahakkin/).The group focuses on investigations of electronic, optical, magnetic, chemical and catalytic properties of bare, supported, and ligand-protected metal nanoparticles as well as on structural and chemical properties of metal nanoparticle / bionanoparticle (virus) hybrids. The group operates in the Nanoscience Center (NSC, www.jyu.fi/nanoscience) as well as in the Departments of Physics and Chemistry of the University of Jyväskylä, and has close collaborations inside the NSC and with about ten foreign groups world-wide. Representative recent publications include J. Am. Chem. Soc. 137, 11880 (2015); J. Am. Chem. Soc. 137, 4324 (2015); Science 345, 909 (2014); PNAS 111, 1277 (2014); Nature Comm. 4, 2422 (2013); ACS Nano 7, 10263 (2013);  Nature Chem4, 443 (2012).

The postdoctoral researcher is expected to have good skills in English language.

A successful candidate should have a PhD or equivalent degree, with a strong background in one or more of the following areas: electronic structure theory, quantum chemistry, practical applications of density functional theory to nanostructures or nanoparticles, or molecular dynamics simulations of inorganic or biological nanostructures. Post-doctoral researchers have an opportunity to participate in teaching in the Physics/Chemistry Departments, depending on their background.

The job-specific salary component of a postdoctoral researcher is based on the job demands level 5-6 (2852 – 3326,47 €/kk) according to the salary system concerning teaching and research staff at universities.
