Postdoctoral Position in Bio-oriented Nanoscicence

We invite candidates to submit applications for a PostDoc position in the physical chemistry group of Professor C. Palivan, Department of Chemistry, at the University of Basel, Switzerland. The position is for one year, with possible prolongation up to two years.

Job description:

The overall objective will be to further develop and initiate projects based on combination of biomolecules (enzymes and DNA) and synthetic nano-objects. The project supports a biomimetic approach to self-organize nano-objects via molecular recognition interactions in a similar manner as found in nature. Such assemblies will serve as a platform for controlled enzymatic reactions at the nanoscale in order to develop further applications in medicine.

This is an interdisciplinary project from which you will gain valuable experience in the domain of physical chemistry, biochemistry, and nanoscience. Your role will be to functionalize with DNA synthetic nano-objects (membranes, compartments or nanoparticles) and characterize their selforganization and properties when combined with enzymes.  More information on the topics of the group in which you will be working can be found at  http://www.chemie.unibas.ch/~palivan/

Your profile:

  • You will ideally have a PhD in chemistry, molecular biology, biochemistry or biochemical engineering;
  • Experience in DNA functionalization of nano-objects is a must;
  • Experience with enzyme kinetics is a must;
  • Basic knowledge of molecular biology techniques (e.g. PCR, DNA purification);
  • Basic knowledge of protein biochemistry techniques (e.g. gel electrophoresis, protein purification);
  • Citizenship of Switzerland or one EU country
  • High records of publications in internationally refereed scientific journals;
  • Proficiency in English; German is optional.

Application: For further information, please contact Prof. Dr. Cornelia Palivan, (Cornelia.Palivan@unibas.ch, phone: +41.61.2673839). Interested candidates will send, by 31.08.2016: i. letter of motivation, ii. curriculum vitae, iii. names and contact details for two referees.
The University of Basel is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
