Postdoc in Polymer Chemistry and Microemulsions

DTU Nanotech (Department of Micro- and Naotechnology), is an international research and education nanoscience Department based at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). DTU Nanotech undertakes interdisciplinary research involving scientists from relevant areas in physics, chemistry, molecular biology and engineering.

At the Colloids & Biological Interface Group (CBIO), we are searching for a highly motivated Postdoctoral fellow with strong ambition and commitment to a productive environment. The CBIO group comprises the fields of organic synthesis, physical chemistry, biochemistry and microbiology.

Responsibilities and tasks
The research project aims to develop advanced drug delivery vehicles containing hundreds of compartments. The creation of multicompartment architectures is currently an emerging area of research. However, to date, all the reported systems containing multiple compartments have a size in the range of microns, thus, for intravenous injection and intracellular delivery, the current challenge consists in assembling systems in the submicron range. Given the tremendous complexities of potential drugs and the immense variety of human diseases, the creation of multicompartment architectures in which each compartment can be independently loaded with different biomolecules and/or drugs is envisioned to be an optimal form of drug delivery, which will create new avenues and large benefits to the pharmaceutical field. The research plan will start by the design and assembly of a library of polymeric nanoparticles with subcompartments which will be extensively characterized by high-throughput techniques.

The applicant will have a central role in developing the library by Surfactant-Free Precipitation Polymerization (SFPP) in water and will also be expected to co-supervise students.

Qualifications
The successful applicant will have a Ph.D. in Chemistry. Experience with SFPP and microemulsions in general, as well as a strong background in polymer chemistry is preferable. Experience in co-supervising students is also required.

We offer
We offer an interesting and challenging job in an international environment focusing on education, research, public-sector consultancy and innovation, which contribute to enhancing the economy and improving social welfare. We strive for academic excellence, collegial respect and freedom tempered by responsibility. The Technical University of Denmark (DTU) is a leading technical university in northern Europe and benchmarks with the best universities in the world.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.

The contract will be initially for 1 year and upon a positive evaluation, it will be extended to 2.5 years.

Further information
Further information may be obtained from Assistant Professor Dr. Leticia Hosta-Rigau, tel.: +45 4525 5555, email: leri@nanotech.dtu.dk.
