Postdoc in "Analysis of Noncovalent Protein Complexes" / "Instrument Development"

Research context:
The group of Prof. Frank Sobott at the University of Antwerp (Belgium) develops and uses methods based on nano-ESI, native mass spectrometry and ion mobility, to investigate large noncovalent assemblies of (bio-)molecules. Current topics include protein and DNA/RNA conformational studies and the assembly, architecture and dynamics of complexes. We are also developing and modifying instrumentation, in collaboration with manufacturers. The lab has a Synapt G2 (with ETD and SID option) and a high-mass Q-Tof2 and will acquire a customized Synapt G1 for the purpose of this project.

Description

The candidate will be employed in the group of Frank Sobott, to lead efforts in the development and application of new experimental methods for “native” MS and ion mobility, including top-down sequencing and native conformational mapping with both ETD and SID, surface labelling and computational approaches. A major focus of the project will be to develop devices and methods for soft-landing of macromolecular complexes inside the mass spectrometer (“preparative mass spectrometry”), for further structural analysis e.g. by electron microscopy, in collaboration with instrument manufacturers.
