PhD student position - Dortmund, Germany

The Leibniz-Institut für Analytische Wissenschaften – ISAS – e.V. is located in Dortmund and Berlin. Besides scientific activities in the development of new or improved measuring methods and analytical separation techniques as well as spectroscopy and spectrometric equipment in modern analysis, research is undertaken in the areas of spectroscopic methods and analytical contributions to solving problems in the fields of materials and life sciences.

We invite applications for a

PhD student position (m/f)

in signaling proteomics for the time-resolved mass spectrometry-based characterization of cellular signaling events that regulate human platelets and their involvement in thrombosis and hemostasis.

As a member of the Signaling Proteomics research team you will be responsible for:

  • Developing and improving methods for the mass spectrometry-based quantification of phosphorylation and further post-translational modifications (PTMs)
  • Utilizing these methods for the quantification of signaling events involved in the physiological/ pathophysiological activation of platelets – in close collaboration with clinical partners
  • Presenting and publishing data
  • Assisting in the supervision of a state-of-the-art nano-LC-MS/MS system

Your profile:

  • Masters, Diploma or equivalent degree in biochemistry/ chemistry/ pharmacy that allows direct admission for doctoral studies in Germany
  • Strong background and interest in protein chemistry, analytical (bio-)chemistry and mass spectrometry, experimental research experience
  • Scientific creativity and passion for solving complex biological questions
  • Willingness to learn and develop novel methods, to demonstrate initiative and responsibility, and to work in an interdisciplinary team
  • Good working knowledge of English, good computer skills

The salary will be according to the German TV-L (E13). This position is a part-time work (60%) and is offered for three years. The position is available immediately.
