PhD School on TEM, AES and SIMS techniques + Plasma module

In close collaboration with the University of Luxembourg, the Centre de Recherche Public - Gabriel Lippmann is organizing the 8th cycle of its PhD School "Nanoanalysis using Finely Focused Ion and Electron Beams". This PhD School concentrates on the TEM, AES and SIMS techniques and includes lectures by renowned professors and key researchers in the field.

The complete cycle consists of four teaching weeks and one analysis week. During each teaching week, the participants not only have the opportunity to follow the course, but also to take part in practical sessions on the various nanoanalysis instruments.

Furthermore, in the framework of the LIPES virtual laboratory, a Plasma Week is organized at the end of Teaching Week 1. During this week, participants will be given an introduction into plasma physics, plasma diagnostic techniques and several surface treatment techniques using cold plasmas, as well as demonstrations in the labs of the Centre de Recherche Public Gabriel Lippmann.

Although the courses and practical sessions are free of charge, participants must cover their travel and accommodation costs and book their own hotel . A number of grants are available for students with no funding available. To apply for a grant, please send a letter of motivation (1 page) to:

Teaching Week 1 of the next cycle provides a comprehensive overview of the different techniques and will take place from 12th to 17th November 2012.
